In this project, I delve into gender and body image in eight oil paintings that depicts transmasculine top surgery. In depicting double-incision top surgery, I observe two important juxtapositions. First: the bodily trauma of surgery versus the mental and emotional healing that comes with gender-affirming care. Second: society’s negative and oppressive perception of trans bodies versus the love and happiness that comes with trans people growing into their true selves. I do this through a series of oil paintings that depict close-ups of the double-incision top surgery process with added intrusions of flesh and eyes.
